Next steps underway for ACT Government’s first coffee cup trial

Released 11/09/2019

The ACT Government has today called for expressions of interest for organisations to deliver a reusable coffee cup trial program in Canberra.

The 12-month trial will see a swap and go model that will be free for local cafes and customers to participate in.

The program will encourage a reuse system for customers and will allow them to get a coffee from one café and be able to return the cup to another participating café.

“Australian’s consume more than 50,000 cups of coffee every 30 minutes. With this trial, we’re encouraging more Canberrans to make the simple switch from disposable to reusable – helping do out bit in the ‘War on Waste’,” Minister for Climate Change and Sustainability Shane Rattenbury said today.

Over 1000 businesses across the ACT and Queanbeyan are participating in the Actsmart Business Recycling program, which provides free advice, education and signage to reduce what we sent to landfill.

Organisations interested in delivering the trial can contact the Actsmart team at actsmartbusiness@act.gov.au.
