Minister for Community Services and Facilities, Suzanne Orr MLA will officially open the 2019 Volunteering Expo this Saturday 26 October.

Hosted annually by Volunteering and Contact ACT, the 2019 Expo will be the biggest yet with approximately 1500 people, including exhibitors and volunteers, expected to attend.

The Expo is a one-stop-shop for Canberrans to find out about volunteering opportunities across the ACT and surrounding region. This year’s Expo has something for everyone, with activities, food, exhibitor stalls and information sessions across a range of sectors including community organisations, environment, sport, tourism, business, arts, education, science and emergency management.

Minister Orr, who participated in volunteering activities as a child through her local Guides Group and Clean Up Australia Day, talked about the role of volunteering in Canberra.

“Events like this provide us with an opportunity to promote the importance of volunteering in the ACT. I recognise the vital role volunteers play in the Canberra region and the positive impact this has on individuals and the community.” Minister Orr said.

CEO of Volunteering and Contact ACT, Ms Vicky Darling believes that volunteering is changing and there are now many ways people can help the community sector in Canberra and really give back to their community.

“The need for volunteers in the Canberra region is continuing to grow. There are over 150 volunteer opportunities listed on our website, with new roles posted every week.

“The 2019 Volunteering Expo provides a showcase of the amazing work of volunteers and will give people a taste of some of the volunteering opportunities on offer.” Ms Darling said.

The Volunteering Expo will run from 10am until 3pm on Saturday 26 October at the Old Bus Depot building in Kingston.
