Weekly mowing report week commencing 30 April 2012

The ACT Government wishes to advise that mowing will be carried out at the following locations in Canberra (weather permitting) commencing on Monday 30 April 2012.


Inner north

Location

Purpose

Acton, Ainslie, Dickson, Downer, Hackett, Watson and Molonglo Reach.

General suburb mowing including fire fuel reduction.

Flemington Road, Randwick Road and Federal Highway.

Arterial roads mowing.

Tuggeranong

Location

Purpose

Kambah (west of Drakeford Drive), Fadden, Gowrie and Monash.

General suburb mowing including fire fuel reduction.

Woden / Weston Creek

Location

Purpose

Farrer, Fisher, Mawson, Phillip, Waramanga and Weston.

General suburb mowing including fire fuel reduction.

Athllon Drive, Launceston Street, Melrose Drive and Tuggeranong Parkway.

Arterial roads mowing.

Inner south

Location

Purpose

Hume, Deakin and Fyshwick.

General suburb mowing including fire fuel reduction.

Sydney Avenue, Melbourne Avenue, Adelaide Avenue, Monaro Highway, Bowen Drive, Hindmarsh Drive, Cotter Road and Lady Denman Drive.

Arterial roads mowing.

Belconnen

Location

Purpose

Bruce, Belconnen, Cook, Macquarie, Evatt and Spence.

General suburb mowing including fire fuel reduction.

Belconnen Way.

Arterial roads mowing.

Gungahlin

Location

Purpose

Casey, Bonner, Hall Markets, Hall Showground and Crace.

General suburb mowing including fire fuel reduction.

Key facts

  • The ACT Government is responsible for mowing more than 5000 hectares (equivalent to 5,000 football fields) of irrigated and non-irrigated grass in urban open space and at the urban edge.
  • The ACT Government has a base mowing fleet of 100 mowers, comprising 60 internal and 40 contract mowers. Recently the ACT Government has replaced 29 owned mowers with new leased mowers. Additional contract mowers are also employed through-out the mowing season.
  • The ACT Government's Fire Management Unit is monitoring fuel loads across the Territory and prioritising work accordingly. Programmed works include hazard reduction burns, mowing, slashing and even grazing to reduce fuel loads.  
  • Public safety with fire fuel reduction and line of sight along roads remains a priority.
  • Residents are reminded that they are responsible for mowing the nature strip that adjoins their property.
  • The ACT Government appreciates people's patience while the mowing program takes place.
