The National Arboretum Canberra will welcome the Portrait Gallery Store proprietors as its new retail partner from Monday 1 September 2014.
"I am delighted to announce the Portrait Gallery Store will be the new managers of the retail outlet in the Arboretum's Village Centre," Stephen Alegria, Executive Manager, National Arboretum Canberra said today.
"With 21 years' experience in managing museum shops and specialist bookstores, the Portrait Gallery Store proprietors have a proven record for operating successful cultural institution stores with the highest standards of merchandise and customer service.
"The innovative new retail store will be called The Curatoreum and will complement the National Arboretum's philosophy and quality architecture of the Village Centre, providing visitors with a diverse range of beautiful and ethically sourced merchandise and colourful displays.
"The themes and style of The Curatoreum will be developed specifically for the National Arboretum site, focusing on botanical and Australian design and enhancing the visitor experience," Mr Alegria said.
Curatoreum Director Richard Baz said he was looking forward to the opportunity to work with the National Arboretum.
"My partner Melanie and I are very excited to be involved with the National Arboretum. We have a wonderful opportunity to create a new store, which complements the vision of the Arboretum," Mr Baz said.
"We are looking forward to bringing our successful style of the Portrait Gallery Store and applying it to the new environment of the National Arboretum.
"Beautiful books and home wares, terrariums and planters, designer handcrafted objects, mementos, jewellery and a well-stocked children's section will all be part of the merchandise offered," Mr Baz said.
It is anticipated the new store will undertake modifications, rebranding and fit-out before opening to the public.
