ACT Women’s Advisory Council calls for new members

Released 11/09/2018

The ACT Government is calling for Canberra women to nominate for membership of the 2019-2020 ACT Ministerial Advisory Council on Women. The council is an independent voice, able to raise and debate issues that matter to women in the ACT.

The ACT Government is committed to removing barriers to enable women and girls to reach their potential, contribute to innovation and ideas and to take up leadership positions.

The council plays a key role in advising the government on issues of importance to women in the ACT, and assists with work to improve the status of women in our community.

Women across varied age groups, diverse backgrounds and with a wide range of community and occupational expertise make up the council and their work reflects the objectives of the ACT Women’s Plan.

The council also monitors the progress of achievements towards these objectives through consultation with women in the community and relevant organisations.

Members are selected for their expertise and experience in issues affecting women. Nominees for membership should have a sound knowledge of the interests and concerns of ACT women, and an ability to consult and represent on a wide range of issues.

Nominations are invited from individuals and representatives of women’s organisations and peak bodies in the ACT who are able to demonstrate commitment to the advancement of women.

Nominations close on 19 October 2018 and application packages can be obtained from the ACT Office for Women online at www.women.act.gov.au or at women@act.gov.au, or by phoning 6205 1075.
