Further upgrades to Narrabundah Ballpark

Released 20/03/2018

Canberra’s home of elite baseball will be soon be more comfortable for spectators and players with

$4.5 million in improvements at the Narrabundah Ballpark underway today.

These upgrades to the Narrabundah Ballpark will be a huge boost for the Canberra Cavalry and other visiting teams in the Australian Baseball League.

Cavalry home games are the envy of teams across the ABL for the amazing atmosphere and community feel that’s created so we’re going to improve the ballpark and make this even better.

The upgrade also places Canberra to attract international content and is perfectly timed for the expansion plans of Baseball Australia as they increasingly look to the Asian baseball market.

Major extensions to the existing grandstand will be one of the more noticeable improvements. Media facilities will be boosted with a new announcer’s box and broadcast area on the upper level and a commercial kitchen, toilets and storage areas on the ground floor.

Baseball players will also benefit with the existing change rooms to receive upgrades and batting practice cages to be relocated closer to the rooms.

The ground itself will also undergo improvements with a fence realignment at the first and third base to create additional space and improve the viewing experience for spectators.

The ACT Government committed funding for the improvements in the 2016-17 Budget and it is great to get work underway, ready to be completed for the commencement of the 2018-19 baseball season.

Some upgrades to the Ballpark have already been completed with improved parking arrangements on Kyeema Street and new concession stands for the last baseball season.

I would like to thank the local Narrabundah community for working with the government while these upgrades are completed and the broader baseball community for their ongoing advocacy and support for this project.
