New irrigation system to be installed for football at Hawker Playing Fields

Released 08/06/2018

A better playing surface for football at the Hawker District Playing Fields will result from upgrades to the irrigation system due to commence later this month.

The outdated irrigation system will be replaced at the Hawker 1 football grounds alongside Murranji Street, Hawker.

A booster pump will also be installed to improve the irrigation system. These upgrades will help keep the ground fit for play for the Belsouth Football Club, visiting teams and recreational users.

While the improvements to their usual home ground are delivered, I would like to thank the Belsouth Football Club for moving training and match play to nearby ovals for a short period.

Some of the football club’s games have been relocated to the Scullin Oval.

A temporary increase in traffic and parking around the Scullin Oval on some weeknights and weekends will be noticeable to the local community and I thank them for their patience.

Early works to begin the improvements to the irrigation system at Hawker District Playing Fields are expected to commence later this month. The fields will be closed from 8 July 2018 for all users and works are due to be completed in September 2018.

Following the completion of the work, the ground may require some restoration time before normal activity can resume.
