Search begins again for this year’s People’s Sporting Champion

Released 30/08/2018

Today I joined with some of Canberra’s sporting elite to announce the 2018 People’s Sporting Champion award is now open.

The People’s Sporting Champion award, presented by Canberra Milk, is a key part of the ACT Government’s annual CBR Sport Awards, and provides an opportunity to come together to celebrate the Territory’s excellent sporting teams, clubs and individual sportspeople including athletes, coaches and officials who contribute to Canberra’s active community life.

This year the ACT Government is partnering with Canberra Milk who will also provide $5,000 worth of sporting equipment to a lucky local school or sporting club, who nominate through the website.

Canberra has an incredibly diverse and vibrant sporting culture, with sporting clubs spanning from Ultimate Frisbee and hang-gliding to more traditional pursuits such as netball and tennis. Sport brings our community together, builds pride in our city and breaks down barriers of culture, class and gender.

In 2017 the award went to Cameron Crombie, a champion athlete who has achieved outstanding success for both shot put and javelin in the F38 category for athletes with cerebral palsy. Cameron is a great example a sporting champion within our community.

The awards will be presented at the CBR Sport Awards Night, which will be held at the National Arboretum on Friday 30 November.

I encourage Canberrans to nominate their favourite sportsperson for the Canberra Milk People’s Sporting Champion award, and start casting votes to be in the running for the fantastic prize.

Voting closes on Monday 5 November 2018. To vote and purchase tickets to the awards night visit www.cbrsportawards.com.au
