Women get ready to return to work

Released 22/08/2018

The ACT Government’s Office for Women and ACT Career Shop will again partner with Ginninderry’s training and employment initiative, SPARK, to run an expanded series of workshops across the ACT to prepare local women to enter or return to the paid workforce.

The SPARK initiative demonstrates the government’s commitment to ensuring women and girls in the ACT are supported to participate in all aspects of society, including the workforce. I want to give women and girls the best chance to reach their potential, contribute to innovation and ideas and to take up leadership positions.

In a program first, local woman right across the capital region will be eligible to apply for the workshops to be held in September and October in Canberra’s North and South.

Ginninderry’s SPARK training and employment manager Emma Sckrabei said, “the purpose of all our SPARK programs is to educate, upskill and boost confidence while providing real-world learning opportunities to participants. By opening this latest opportunity up to women right across Canberra, we’re hoping to expand our reach and build on Ginninderry’s commitment to improving the lives of those in our local community.”

Along with guidance for creating professional resumes and cover letters, participants will also receive industry advice to help them prepare for job interviews in the private and public sectors and explore career options.

The program will also cover the topic of personal presentation and dressing for the workplace. On completion, all participants will have access to ongoing one-on-one support from Career Shop.

Workshops on the North side begin Tuesday 4 September and in Canberra’s south on 24 October. To check your eligibility, find out more and book your place, please contact Ashleigh at Ginninderry on 1800 316 900 or email ashleigh@ginninderry.com

The program is fully funded through the ACT Government’s Office for Women. Further information is available at www.women.act.gov.au and www.ginninderry.com
