33 affordable rental homes for Kaleen

Released 20/08/2019

The ACT Government has invited tenders for a community housing provider to manage an affordable housing rental model at 33 new 2-bedroom Class C adaptable units in Kaleen.

The ACT Government believes every Canberran, no matter their circumstances, should have access to safe and affordable housing that suits their needs. The 33 units are part of a Housing ACT development in Kaleen and will provide more affordable rentals for Canberra.

The successful tenderer will deliver a rental model that targets eligible low to middle income households most in need, with a focus on older people, women, and people living with disability. They will also be required to deliver initiatives that build community and foster belonging for the whole site.

This tender is the next step in delivering the ACT Government’s commitment to increase the supply of affordable rental housing and grow the community housing sector in the ACT. This is a key goal of the ACT Housing Strategy, released last year.

Community housing providers play a critical role in the ACT housing market and the government is committed to growing their capacity locally.

These 33 homes contribute to the government’s commitment to grow the community housing sector through the provision of 151 dwellings across different sites, to be tenanted and managed by the sector to achieve a strong social mix and deliver more affordable rental housing on the ground.

Tender documentation is available from ACT Government Tenders ACT. Tender closes on 1 October 2019.
