Boosting boardroom skills for women in the ACT

Released 13/06/2019

The ACT Government has opened applications for the 2019 Audrey Fagan Board Directorship Program in partnership with the Australian Institute of Company Directors (AICD) to run a series of workshops to help women develop their leadership skills and knowledge of boards and committees.

The Audrey Fagan Board Directorship Program is a component of the four-part 2019 Audrey Fagan Program designed to promote gender equality and increase representation of women in leadership roles.

The other components are: the Audrey Fagan Enrichment Grants; the Audrey Fagan Communication and Leadership Program; and the Audrey Fagan Board Traineeship Program.

Now in its seventh year, the Audrey Fagan Board Directorship Program aims to support women to build their confidence in their existing board roles, or to take the first steps towards becoming a board director.

Participants will be provided with tailored training designed by expert educators with the input of experienced directors and will have access to resources and networking opportunities.

The program will be run over three workshops with a social networking event at the end of the course:

  • 24 July – Workshop 1 – In the Boardroom: Responsibilities and Practice
  • 7 August – Workshop 2 – Introduction to Financial Statements for Directors
  • 21 August – Workshop 3 – Introduction to the Strategic Role of the Director
  • 28 August – Social Networking Event – Director Journey Discussion

The 2019 Board Directorship Program will continue to support the ACT Government’s commitments of 50% female representation on ACT Government boards and committees; and 40% female representation on government funded sporting organisation boards by 2020.

Spaces are available for up to 30 women to participate in this free program. Applications close on 5 July 2019. To apply please go to: www.form.act.gov.au/

The Office for Women can be contacted at women@act.gov.au or on 02 6205 8484.
