Celebrating Canberra’s sporting champions

Released 19/11/2019

The Canberra’s People’s Sporting Champion voting prize winner and the CBR Sport Awards Minister’s Awards finalists for Innovation, Inclusion and Event Excellence have today been announced.

Each year, through the CBR Sport Awards, we celebrate the local champions that contribute to Canberra’s vibrant sporting community from the quiet achievers to elite athletes and local sporting organisations.

As part of the People’s Sporting Champion vote, community members were asked to nominate their favourite club or school to be in a draw to win $5,000. Congratulations to the Canberra Croquet Club who were drawn at random from these nominations as the winner of the $5,000 prize.

Finalists have also been selected for the Minister’s Awards which recognise outstanding programs and activities delivered for the community. Congratulations to the nine finalists—I look forward to announcing the winners at the Awards event.

The finalists for each category are listed below:

Ministers Award - Inclusion

  • Canberra Region Rugby League – The Score Raiders Program
  • Table Tennis ACT – Diversity and Inclusion
  • Royal Life Saving ACT – Swim My Way
