Continued investment in Canberra’s women and girls

Released 07/06/2019

The 2019-20 ACT Budget provides funding for a number of new and enhanced policies and programs to support and improve the lives of women and girls in the ACT. Additional funding identified in the Women’s Budget Statement will help to ensure that women and girls can access the opportunities they need to thrive.

This additional funding has been provided across the ACT Government to improve health outcomes; drive gender equality in work, sport and the community; and help to make women safer and able to live their lives the way they want. This Budget provides important funding for services to prevent domestic and family violence and ensure that all women have access to legal assistance when they need it.

Alongside these initiatives, the priority for the rest of the year will be to work in closely with community to develop actions that improve the lives of women and girls through the Second Action Plan 2020-22, under the ACT Women’s Plan 2016-26.

The ACT Office for Women will continue to support women in the community through a range of services and initiatives including:

  • Women’s Information Service
  • ACT Diversity Register
  • Return to Work Grants program
  • Audrey Fagan Leadership Program
  • Audrey Fagan Young Women’s Enrichment Grants
  • Audrey Fagan Board Traineeship Program
  • ACT Women’s Grants Program (Safety Grants and Participation Grants)

Together we can work collaboratively – government, community and individuals - to ensure that the women and girls of the ACT have access to as many opportunities as they can.

The ACT Women’s Budget Statement is an action from the ACT Women’s Plan and this year is the first version of the statement. I will continue to work with the community and the women’s sector in particular about improvements to the statement for future years.

The Women’s Budget Statement will be an annual analysis of new initiatives will be available at www.communityservices.act.gov.au.
