Greater support for women returning to work

Released 06/08/2019

The ACT Government continues to invest in supporting women to return to  paid work with new partnerships with Ginninderry's SPARK and Career Shop, and  UnitingCare Kippax.

Each year, the ACT Government provides up to 160 women with $1000 grants to  support them to re-enter the workforce. Grants are available year-round  and can be put towards anything that will help women return to work including  childcare, clothing and courses.

This year, the ACT Government has partnered with UnitingCare Kippax to  provide grant recipients with mentoring support to increase financial  independence by preparing for, obtaining and maintaining employment.

The ACT Government also funds Ginninderry's training and employment  initiative, SPARK, to run a series of workshops across the ACT to prepare local  women to enter or return to the paid workforce.

Through the Future Skills for Future Work grant, SPARK will continue to  offer free workshops and individualised sessions to support women to gain the  skills and confidence they need to get back to work. This will include advice  on available vocational education options, pathways to apprenticeships, and  support to take active steps towards employment.

On completion, all participants will have access to one-on-one career  development support from Career Shop.

This year, the ACT Governments Office for Women has secured a Future Skills  for Future Work grant from Skills Canberra for $176,810 that will enable the  continued investment in initiatives that support women returning to paid work.

These initiatives demonstrate the government's commitment to ensuring women  and girls in the ACT are supported to participate in all aspects of society,  including the workforce, and to give women and girls the best chance to reach  their potential.

The next round of SPARK Women Return to Work workshops will begin on Tuesday 27 August on the North side and 24 October Canberra's south. To check your  eligibility, find out more and book your place, please contact Ashleigh at  Ginninderry on 1800 316 900 or email ashleigh@ginninderry.com
