ACT Government committed to working with Tennis ACT on plans to support growth in the sport

Released 13/08/2020

Following the release of concept drawings for a new tennis facility in Gungahlin, the ACT Government has committed to continue working with Tennis ACT on plans to grow the sport in the Territory.

Over several years the Government has been working with Tennis ACT to model the future needs of the tennis community and prioritise additional infrastructure to support continued growth in tennis participation.

In 2018, the Government commissioned work on possible locations for a Gungahlin tennis facility, with the outcome identifying several potential options including a preferred site in Amaroo. The Government will continue to support the work of Tennis ACT on their expansion plans.

The ACT Government has a long history of partnership with sporting organisations to improve facilities.  Since 2008-09, the ACT Government has provided significant financial support, more than $7 million, to improve tennis facilities on the Northside at the Canberra Tennis Centre in Lyneham.

Further facility partnerships with Tennis are welcomed as the sport continues to grow in the ACT with more than 32,000 participants through initiatives like Book-a-Court and the Tennis in Schools Program.
