Cabinet agreed to the proposed government response to the seven Legislative Assembly Standing Committee Reports on 2018-19 Annual and Financial Reports:

  • Economic Development and Tourism

  • Health, Ageing and Community Services
  • Justice and Community Safety
  • Planning and Urban Renewal
  • Public Accounts.

Education Amendment Bill 2020

Cabinet agreed the Minister for Education and Early Childhood Development present the Education Amendment Bill 2020 to the ACT Legislative Assembly . The proposed Bill will:

  • require any school who has boarding facilities to, as part of the registration and regulation process, adhere to AS 5725:2015 - Australian Standard: Boarding Standard for Australian schools and residences, demonstrated through appropriate policy and procedures at the individual school level;
  • provide the Minister for Education and Childhood Development with delegation to waive fees for students holding a temporary visa under certain humanitarian and financial hardship grounds;
  • enable the appointment of parent and/or citizen representatives to public school boards, where there is not an active P&C Association; and
  • clarify the attendance requirement for all enrolled students (regardless of place of residence) and enable the Directorate to share information with interjurisdictional bodies with authoritative responsibility such as NSW Education or NSW Department of Communities and Justice.

Adoption Amendment Bill 2020

Cabinet agreed the Minister for Children, Youth and Families present the Adoption Amendment Bill 2020 in the Legislative Assembly.

Births, Deaths and Marriages Registration Amendment Bill 2020

Minute number: 19/642/CAB

Cabinet agreed the Minister for Justice, Consumer Affairs and Road Safety present the Births, Deaths and Marriages Registration Amendment Bill 2020 in the Legislative Assembly. This Bill will remove certain barriers for trans, intersex or gender diverse young people to change their gender identity particulars, and obtain an updated birth certificate. This Bill will also allow the Registrar-General to issue integrated birth certificates for adopted people on request in certain circumstances. Integrated birth certificates include details of birth parents and adoptive parents. 2020-21 Capital Works Program Stage 2 Strategic re-profiling

Cabinet (Budget Committee of Cabinet) agreed to set the 2020-21 capital works program at an upper limit of $1 billion to give the community a clear indication of the extent of the Government’s stimulus support for the ACT economy and provide certainty for industry planning.

Stimulus Funding from Commonwealth Government for Roads – Matched Funding and enhancements to the ACT Materials Recovery Facility
