Notification date: 09 August 2017
Notifying body: Conservator of Flora and Fauna
Legislation: Nature Conservation Act 2014
The Nature Conservation (Bimberi Wilderness Area) Activities Declaration 2017 has been made under Section 256 of the Nature Conservation Act 2014.
An Activities Declaration for a given reserve is made by the Conservator of Flora and Fauna on an individual reserve basis and improves public information of which activities are allowed or not allowed within individual reserves. An Activities Declaration will indicate which activities are prohibited and which are restricted (i.e. can be undertaken in the reserve under certain circumstances).
Examples of restricted activities includes walking in groups of eight people or less, and camping by permit in groups of eight people or less in designated areas only and not staying in any location longer than 3 nights. Examples of prohibited activities includes the use of motorised vehicles, swimming, and collecting wood and timber.
The prohibited and restricted activities differ between reserves and an Activities Declaration is therefore made for each reserve. A map of the reserve showing area, locations, roads and trails related to restricted activities is provided within each Activities Declaration. The Parks and Conservation Service will place new signage reflecting the Activities Declarations in prominent locations in reserves.
