The ACT Government has long recognised the need to engage with the surrounding NSW local Councils through forums such as the Canberra Region joint Organisation, and direct engagement with local Councils such as Queanbeyan Palerang Regional Council.
Canberra Region Joint Organisation (CRJO)
In 2018, the ACT Chief Minister and Chair of the Canberra Region Joint Organisation (CRJO) re-committed to the CRJO-ACT Memorandum of Understanding (CRJO-ACT MoU), last signed in 2016. The CRJO is an organisation of local Councils across the South East and Tablelands Region of NSW, which (including the ACT) form the Canberra Region. The ACT Government is an associate member of the CRJO, acknowledging the importance of our relationship with the surrounding region. The CRJO and ACT Government work cooperatively on issues and projects of mutual interest that support the Canberra Region's future prosperity.
The CRJO is a regional leader, advocating for all parts of the Canberra Region in partnership to create vibrant communities and be the voice of a strong and cohesive region which recognises and celebrates unique sub regions. In addition to the ACT Government, CRJO members include Bega Valley Shire Council, Eurobodalla Shire Council, Goulburn-Mulwaree Council , Hilltops Council , Queanbeyan Palerang Regional Council , Snowy Monaro Regional Council, Upper Lachlan Shire Council, Yass Valley Council and Wingecarribee Shire Council.
Membership of the CRJO provides a platform for the ACT Government and NSW Local Governments to collectively pursue regional benefits and improve outcomes for the ACT and Canberra Region community, including facilitating close regional cooperation, resource sharing, and cultivating shared investment and infrastructure development opportunities. The CRJO-ACT MoU is underpinned by an annual priority list.

Engagement with Queanbeyan Palerang Regional Council
Queanbeyan is Canberra's closest NSW city and the communities, economies and environment of Canberra and Queanbeyan are closely linked. There are a number of regional and cross-border challenges and opportunities that the ACT Government pursues directly with our closest neighbour under the ACT-QPRC Letter of Intent.
