ACT Work Health and Safety Council - Communique

The Work Health and Safety Council is established under the WorkHealth and Safety Act 2011 to advise the Minister for Employment and Workplace Safety on matters relating to work safety, workers’ compensation and activities of the work health and safety regulator. The Council meets quarterly and includes representatives from government, industry, and unions.
Summary of discussions
The Secretariat opened the first meeting of the WHS Council. The new Council was welcomed and its establishment following recent amendments to the Work Health and Safety Act 2011 was noted.
Appointed Members to the WHS Council elected the Chair of the Council as Jason O’Mara and Deputy Chair of the Council as Nadine White.
The terms of reference and operational and accountability guidelines were agreed by the appointed Members.
Council Members were given an update on the implementation of recommendations of the 2018 independent review of the ACT’s work safety compliance infrastructure, policies and procedures.
Council Members noted the injury trend data report and discussed lost time injuries and occupational violence data..
The meeting was closed by the Chair.
