Regulatory activity for Big Splash water park

Released 30/01/2026

Today, Friday 30 January, Access Canberra as the Delegate for the Territory Planning Authority (Authority) provided the lessee of the Big Splash Water Park a letter notifying it that the Authority is considering terminating the Crown Lease for a contravention of Chapter 12 of the Planning Act 2023 (the Act).

The Authority is required under the Act to take this step.

The notice was issued under Part 12 of the Act, and invites the lessee to tell the Authority in writing why the lessee considers that the lease should not be terminated. The Act requires the Authority to take into account any reasons given by the lessee for not terminating the lease.

The notice provides 15 working days after the day the lessee receives the notice to respond, and the Authority may extend this time.

This is now an active regulatory matter so no further information on can be provided by Access Canberra at this stage. Updates will be provided to the community when appropriate as the matters progresses.
