Asphalting works on Constitution Avenue

Released 01/01/2018

A major milestone for the $44.8 million Constitution Avenue project will occur this weekend with the final asphalting works to commence at the first of three intersections along the corridor.

“The Constitution Avenue project is progressing well towards completion of the majority of works in August, weather permitting,” Acting Director Capital Works, Ben McHugh, said.

“The next important stage is the asphalt works to produce the finished pavement surface around the intersections of Constitution Avenue with Coranderrk Street, Allara Street and London Circuit.

“To ensure these works are conducted safely and with minimal inconvenience to road users, temporary overnight road closures will be in place at these intersections intermittently from Sunday 3 July to Friday 8 July 2016, weather permitting. The works will take place each evening between 8 pm and 5 am.”

Works on the intersection of Constitution Avenue and Coranderrk Street will require the following closures:

  • Constitution Avenue in both directions from Anzac Park West to Allara Street
  • Coranderrk Street in both directions from Parkes Way to Amaroo Street.

Detours will be in place along Anzac Parade, Limestone Avenue and Ainslie Avenue.

Works on the intersection of Constitution Avenue and Allara Street will require Constitution Avenue to be closed in both directions from Coranderrk Street to London Circuit. Traffic on Allara Street travelling across Constitution Avenue will be managed by traffic controllers.

Works on the intersection of Constitution Avenue and London Circuit will require the following closures:

  • London Circuit in both directions between Akuna Street and Edinburgh Avenue
  • Constitution Avenue in both directions between Allara Street and the Legislative Assembly car park
  • The access ramp from Commonwealth Avenue northbound to London Circuit eastbound.

Detours will be in place via Allara Street and Akuna Street and northbound along London Circuit from Edinburgh Avenue. Arrangements will be in place for patrons leaving the Canberra Theatre.

The Australian Government provided $42 million for the upgrade of Constitution Avenue and an additional $2.8 million in funding has been allocated by the ACT Government to complete the connection of Constitution Avenue to Vernon Circle.

Barriers, warning and diversion signs will be erected on site.
