Transport Canberra is happy to see more and more people making use of the free City Loop to travel around the centre of our city, with over 20,000 boardings recorded in the three months since it began operation.
“The aim of City Loop is to provide a convenient ‘turn up and go’ weekday service for commuters and tourists to travel around the centre of the ACT as well as connecting with high frequency Red and Blue Rapid services,” Director of Public Transport Operations, Ian McGlinn, said.
“Over 20,000 boardings in three months is a great achievement, and it is very encouraging to see so many Canberrans get on board with this great new service.
“It is a hassle-free way to travel around popular areas in the CBD for free, including the City Bus Station, Canberra Centre, Braddon precinct, Northbourne Avenue, the Australian National University and the New Acton precinct.
“In the first week of Floriade nearly 2,500 people used the City Loop, about 400 more people than any previous week of the service. We encourage locals and visitors to Canberra to take the opportunity to use this service to visit other areas of the City, while avoiding the hassle of parking.
“Passenger boardings for the service are their highest during the hours of 12 pm to 2 pm and 5 pm to 6 pm, which shows people are using it to get out and about during their lunch breaks and in the evening, adding to the vitality of our city centre during the week.
“It is also great to see more people using the service as they become more familiar with it. “We continue to get a lot a great feedback on the service from a range of people and stakeholders, including the ANU and local businesses.”
