Released 17/11/2016
As a result of its growing popularity, Libraries ACT is trialling an additional session and a booking system for its children’s program, Giggle and Wiggle at the Dickson Library.
Giggle and Wiggle involves reading, talking and exploring language with children up to two years of age. The programs are free and include rhymes, songs, language play and games.
“Giggle and Wiggle has become one of the biggest learning programs for our libraries and the sessions at Dickson in particular,” Vanessa Little, Libraries ACT Director said.
“From Tuesday 22 November 2016, the Dickson Library will trial two 30 minute Giggle and Wiggle sessions, one at 10.15 am and repeated at 11.30 am.
“A new booking system will also be trialled for the Dickson sessions to help Libraries ACT manage attendances,” Ms Little said.
A total of 50 children per session will be introduced to allow adequate space for parents or carers to also attend.
All other Giggle and Wiggle sessions at Belconnen, Erindale, Gungahlin, Kippax, Tuggeranong and Woden library branches remain unchanged.
“Library staff are thrilled that the program is well attended which puts smiles on the faces of young ones, but we want to make sure everyone remains safe , not overcrowded and have the best possible experience,” Ms Little said.
“The popularity of the sessions is testament to the value our community puts on this program and we hope the new changes at the Dickson Library will also help make it a more pleasurable experience for all library users,” Ms Little said.
The trial will be in place until the end of 2016 with Libraries ACT considering options for the 2017 program.
Bookings will be open each Tuesday during school terms by telephoning the library on 6205 9000 or by visiting the Libraries ACT website at www.library.act.gov.au.
