Toilet block upgrades at Chifley and Lake Ginninderra

Released 09/08/2016

Transport Canberra and City Services is pleased to announce the completion of upgrades to two toilet blocks in the high use areas of Chifley and Lake Ginninderra, improving amenities in these popular recreational areas for the community.

“The upgraded toilet blocks are located at the Chifley community park and local shopping centre on Chifley Place and at the Lake Ginninderra western foreshore on McDermott Place in Belconnen,” Director,  Capital Works, Ben McHugh, said.

“The $300,000 upgrades include cleaner, brighter and more modern interiors, such as movement sensitive lights, time controlled lights, new hand driers, movement sensitive taps as well as epoxy painted floors for easy cleaning.

“There were also upgrades to improve access and safety for people of all levels of mobility, as well as the visually disadvantaged, such as new disabled accessible fixtures, fittings and paths.

“The works also included vandal resistant fittings, such as vandal-proof ventilated skylights and re-design of layout to remove hiding spots. This will make it easier for us to manage and maintain the sites so they are clean and well serviced.

“The Chifley shops and nearby community park and Lake Ginninderra foreshore sites are high use areas that are very popular with local residents, so this project is a welcome addition to both areas and we hope it will encourage more people to visit more often and stay for longer periods.”
