Released 01/09/2017
Libraries ACT today launched its new Spring What’s On guide with a series of free programs, events and sessions to suit everyone, including a chance to meet Star Wars characters and read a story from a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away.
“With many highlights across all of our branches during Spring, we expect the Star Wars Reads Day on 14 October to be a popular event at the Gungahlin Library. Dress up opportunities for fans of the Rebels or Empire should make it an entertaining day,” Director of Libraries ACT, Vanessa Little said.
“With the warmer weather approaching, green thumbs can improve the look of their home with gardening workshops, there are programs with digital advice on social media, Skype and Facetime, as well as how to use the cloud.
“ACT NOWaste will also present a series of workshops including how to live a waste-free lifestyle, making t-shirts into shopping bags and how to make paper from recycled materials, including denim jeans.
“There are author talks with authors Isobelle Carmody, Fiona McIntosh and Julie Ankers and for teenagers we have writing and drama workshops.
“A special event with Nutrition Australia ACT through September offers advice on eating healthy foods for the younger members of the family. Nourishing Little Minds is specifically designed for three to five-year-olds with parents encouraged to bring children to selected libraries to hear stories, learn family friendly recipes and get little minds excited about eating the right foods.
“Youngsters will also enjoy the many school holiday activities including Lego challenges, Ozobots and LittleBits programming and invention workshops, a Teddy bear’s picnic and solving challenges to celebrate the Famous Five turning 75,” Ms Little said.
All programs with the Spring What’s On guide are free and most require bookings. For more information, visit www.library.act.gov.au or call 6205 9000.
