Road users are advised that work to improve the road surface of the southbound lanes of Northbourne Avenue between Antill Street and Wakefield Avenue will get underway this weekend.
These works will include removing the existing top layer of the road surface, asphalt patching any cracks in the road pavement and then asphalt resurfacing of the full length of the road.
Timing and location of the works
Northbourne Avenue between Antill Street and Wakefield Avenue (southbound)
These works will be carried out as nightworks over five nights from Sunday 6 June 2021 (weather permitting). Hours of work will be between 7 pm and 5 am.
To facilitate these works, Northbourne Avenue will be closed in the southbound direction between Antill Street and Wakefield Avenue between the hours of 7 pm and 5 am each night. In addition, Morphett Street will be closed between Challis Street and Northbourne Avenue.
If these works are unable to be completed within the five designated nights, they will continue on the following nights. Roadside signage will be in place to warn road users.
Effects on traffic
- Signage will be in place to alert people to the road works.
- Detours will be in place.
- Motorists are advised to avoid the area and seek an alternate route.
Effects on pedestrians and cyclists
Off-road footpaths will remain open during the nightworks however on-road cycle lanes will be closed.
All pedestrian crossings (both signalised and unsignalised) will be under the guidance of traffic controllers.
Pedestrians and cyclists are asked to please follow the instructions of traffic controllers and signage when crossing Northbourne Avenue.
Effects on public transport
There will be no impact on light rail or bus services.
Passengers crossing the southbound lanes of Northbourne Avenue to access the Dickson Bus Interchange or light rail stops will be guided through the worksite.
Access will remain in place along Northbourne Avenue for buses to access the Dickson Bus Interchange.
Guests of the Pavilion Hotel
Guests of the Pavilion Hotel will be allowed through the worksite until midnight on each night. Signage will be in place and traffic controllers instructing vehicles how to access the Pavilion Hotel through the worksite.
Works on Northbourne Avenue are part of ongoing improvements across the ACT road network designed to improve safety for all road users. These works are jointly funded by the Australian and ACT Governments.
