Next step for Athllon Drive upgrades as enabling works set to begin

Released 25/05/2025

The ACT Government is pushing forward with one of Canberra’s key road projects, with a second package of enabling works on the southern section of the Athllon Drive Duplication due to start by the end of this month.

The $8.6 million enabling works package will prepare the Athllon Drive corridor for main construction of the duplication between Sulwood Drive and Drakeford Drive in Kambah.

The enabling works are an important step forward to deliver the duplication of Athllon Drive – a key link connecting the communities of Tuggeranong and Woden.

They will lay the groundwork for a safer, upgraded active travel path along the corridor, helping to benefit pedestrians, cyclists and local community and reduce project risk during the main construction work.

Dale and Hitchcock Civil Pty Ltd has been appointed to deliver this package of enabling works following a competitive tender process.

This phase of the project will include relocating underground services, upgrading active travel paths, construction of new path connections, and improving path lighting.

The works will start in late June 2025 and take around six months to complete, weather permitting.

Athllon Drive is a vital road for people living in Canberra’s south, whether they’re driving to work, catching a rapid bus or riding to school.

Around 2,000 vehicles use the road every hour during peak times, and it also supports key public transport routes and cycling links right across the city.

The Athllon Drive duplication will deliver approximately 2.4 kilometres of duplicated road between Sulwood Drive and Drakeford Drive.

This project is jointly funded by the Australian and ACT Governments as part of the Commonwealth Government’s Investment Road and Rail Program.
