ACT Fire & Rescue and ACT Policing are partnering to help educate elderly Canberrans on how to keep their home safe and prevent emergencies.
This will be completed through a series of presentations covering a range of topics, including:
- Home safety improvements
- Personal safety and crime prevention
- Smoke alarms
- Safe heater use
- Lithium-ion battery safety
The initiative aims to support Canberrans aged 65 and over by providing practical information to help them stay safe and independent in their homes.
As part of the joint presentation, firefighters will provide advice on identifying common fire hazards, creating safer habits at home and ensuring residents are prepared in the event of an emergency.
ACT Policing will share practical tips to help reduce the risk of crime and improve personal safety.

Minister for Police, Fire and Emergency Services, Dr Marisa Paterson welcomed the initiative.
