2025 ACT Book of the Year nominations open today

Released 22/01/2025

Nominations are now open for the 2025 ACT Book of the Year Award. The Award recognises quality contemporary literary works including fiction, non-fiction and poetry by Canberra authors published in the previous calendar year.

The ACT Book of the Year Award rewards excellence in literature with prizes of $10,000 for the winner, $2,000 for any highly commended books and $1,000 for each short-listed book. The Award aims to support the development of local writers by promoting writing in the ACT, and contributing to a positive writing culture for the city.

Nominations are for works completed in 2024 and will be considered by an independent judging panel, which recommends a shortlist and the winning author to the Minister for Business, Arts and Creative Industries, Michael Pettersson MLA.

Minister Michael Pettersson said, “Nominations are now open for the ACT Book of the Year Award. This is an opportunity for local authors to put forward nominations for their latest book. The Awards celebrate the work of our incredibly talented local authors and serve to showcase the excellence of our local writing community.

“I hope aspiring authors will be encouraged by the ACT Book of the Year Awards to follow their dream and share their creative ideas - that book waiting to be written may be an award contender in the coming years.

“I’m looking forward to adding this year’s nominated books to my 2025 reading list.”

You can nominate on the ArtsACT website. Nominations for the 2025 ACT Book of the Year Award will close at 5.00pm on Thursday, 20 March 2025.
