WorkSafe ACT executed a search warrant at the registered business address of a company director in Denman Prospect on Wednesday morning (15 January 2020) in order to assist their investigation into the recent worksite fatality in the same suburb.
On Saturday 11 January 2020, a 47-year-old worker died at a residential construction site at the corner of Ada Norris Avenue and Freebury Street.
In executing the warrant WorkSafe ACT were supported by the Australian Federal Police and Australian Border Force. The purpose of the warrant was to obtain electronic and physical records from the company, and other related entities, involved in the fatal incident. Investigations into the cause of the incident are ongoing.
ACT Work Safety Commissioner, Greg Jones, stated that he would use all powers available under the Work Health and Safety Act to fully and thoroughly investigate this tragic incident.
“All ACT workplaces, especially in construction including the residential sector, are on notice that WorkSafe ACT will have a strong regulatory focus on businesses meeting their work health and safety responsibilities and we will not tolerate non-compliance with legislative requirements.”
Further comment on the investigation will not be made at this time.
