Funding boost will see Pegasus flying high

Released 16/09/2022

Pegasus Riding School will receive a $225,000 funding boost from the ACT Government - to support its programs and help more children get active and stay healthy.

The ACT Government committed this funding in the 2021-22 ACT Budget – aiming to help Pegasus expand its services to reach more young people in need.

“Pegasus is one of Canberra’s oldest local charities, delivering therapeutic horse facilitated programs and activities for people of all ages with disability in the ACT and local region for more than 40 years.” said Minister for Sport and Recreation Yvette Berry.

“An active, healthy lifestyle is an essential and basic right for all children, and we want to support organisations like Pegasus who are dedicated to providing services for Canberra families to make that possible.”

The funding boost will see greater use of an improved riding surface in the main indoor arena - installed through an ACT Government Sport and Recreation grant of $51,157 to Pegasus in 2021.

“I’m looking forward to working with Pegasus to see their services and programs grow and reach even more young people across the ACT and local region over the coming years.” said Minister Berry.

“We are thrilled to continue to receive support from the ACT Government. Thanks to the funds we obtained through the Sports and Recreation Grants program our riders, including riders from the broader equestrian community, can now enjoy a first-class surface in our main arena.

“We are looking forward to working closely with the government to see how we can expand and develop new programs to be able to reach even more young people in the ACT community and local region with this additional funding over the next three years.”
