25 new townhouses builds housing numbers

Released 20/08/2024

The ACT Government is adding 25 new townhouses in Whitlam to its public housing portfolio as part of the ongoing commitment to growing public housing stock in the ACT.

The new build is one of largest to be delivered through the Housing ACT Growing and Renewing Public Housing Program, and includes a mix of two, three and four bedroom dwellings making the development.

Minister for Housing and Suburban Development Yvette Berry said these homes will suit a range of household types, and will help reduce the waitlist.

These 25 new homes are on top of the 614 public housing homes that have been built, and the 176 homes that have been purchased (at 30 June 2024), under the Growing and Renewing Public Housing Program.

“We are reaching an exciting point of the program where construction projects are being completed almost every week, delivering more and more homes for Canberrans experiencing vulnerability or disadvantage,” said Minister Berry.

“These townhouses, built by Projex Building Group, are all Class C Adaptable.

“Meaning they are suitable for people with a disability and have the flexibility to allow people to age in place. They can be easily modified over time, should the needs of tenant change.”

The Program is on schedule for full delivery of the PaGA commitment of 400 additional homes by 2027.

“A further 482 homes are currently either under construction, being designed, awaiting development application approvals or in a procurement process to secure builders,” said Minister Berry.
