The ACT Government is committed to helping Canberrans stay active, healthy and engaged in community sport.
Providing the opportunity for people of all backgrounds to engage in community sport is integral to improving equity in the Canberra Community.
Applications for the 2024 Sport and Recreation Investment Scheme are now open.
The Sport and Recreation Investment Scheme supports not-for-profit sport, recreation and community organisations in developing fit for purpose, sustainable and accessible spaces for sport and active recreation.
Minister for Sport and Recreation, Yvette Berry said: “Canberrans play more sport than any other community in Australia. Supporting local clubs means that even more Canberrans get a chance to play the sport they love.”
“I encourage sporting associations and community groups to throw their hat in the ring.”
A range of local clubs and organisations are already benefiting from the Government’s grant program.
The Scheme is improving sporting facilities around Canberra including the Melba Tennis Club, which received $80,000 for a court conversion and maintenance.
The program also provided $1.3 million to the Canberra Rowing Club, to add to the $860,000 they had fundraised, for the construction of a new boathouse. The new boathouse will provide a safer environment for all members, participants and visitors, a better standard of facilities and enable the club to provide new programs for school students and para-athletes.
Applications for 2024 close at midday on 15 March 2024.
