Tenant grants help weave social fabric

Released 09/12/2024

The ACT Government is pleased to announce the opening of the 2025 Tenant Participation Grants this week.

Minister for Homes and New Suburbs Yvette Berry said the grants support Canberrans living in public housing to learn new skills, join sports teams and build social connections in all sorts of ways.

"These grants empower people living in public housing to choose how they get involved with their community and what activities or skills will make the biggest difference in their lives," Minister Berry said.

"The grants are a key part of the ACT Government’s commitment to building cohesive, resilient communities where everyone feels like they belong and are cared about."

Last year, more than 170 applicants across 266 households shared in $70,000 worth of grants.

The Tenant Participation Grants have been operating for more than 20 years and the ACT Government plans to double the amount of funding tenants can apply for, from $400 to $1000, and increase the number of grants available during this term of government.

Applications for the Tenant Participation Grants open on Tuesday and will be accepted until 18 February 2025.

For more information on eligibility criteria and how to apply, contact the CSD Grants Hub by email – CSDGrants@act.gov.au.

ACT public housing tenants may apply for a grant from Tuesday 10 December 2024 at https://dhcs.smartygrants.com.au/2425TPG
