Final week to have your say on city play spaces

Released 16/03/2018

The City Renewal Authority’s survey to find out what you like most about playgrounds is closing next Wednesday, 21 March.

The survey results will help guide the design and creation of future play spaces in the City Renewal Precinct, especially as part of the new high-quality public realm that will be created as part of the redevelopment of West Basin.

The survey results will contribute to a Play Space Audit being conducted by the University of Canberra’s Play, Creativity and Culture Project.

Places for play are critical in creating cities that nurture a diverse population. The play audit will help the authority determine what play spaces people want more of and also what is needed in the city centre to complement the play spaces already available.

The survey aims to find out from the people who use playgrounds, what it is they like best as well as what they think is missing from those experiences.

Detailed design has not yet started for the urban park that will extend the length of the West Basin shore line as part of the redevelopment of the area but play and recreation will be key elements.

The play audit being undertaken by the University of Canberra also includes data collection of available play facilities and amenities, observation of playground usage and activity types; on-site surveys of usage patterns and attitudes to play facilities.

The public survey is available at yoursay.act.gov.au
