Dickson Grants join City Grants to enrich the city's public spaces

Released 14/11/2019

The City Renewal Authority is once again looking for exciting, innovative and engaging projects for the next round of City Grants, and for the first time Dickson Grants, from creative individuals, groups and organisations.

Applications for the inaugural Dickson Grants and new round of City Grants are now open to the community for projects that contribute to the cultural and economic life of public spaces in Civic, Braddon, New Acton, and now Dickson.

City Renewal Authority chief executive Malcolm Snow said extending the grants to Dickson will support the Authority’s previous work in the area and engage the community in a different way.

“The City Grants program has helped the Authority support an incredible mix of projects that have brought energy and excitement into the city’s public spaces,” Mr Snow said.

“Events and initiatives such as the Braddon Busking Festival, DESIGN Canberra Festival, You Are Here Festival, Canberra City Hustle and CBRtalks have enriched people’s experiences within the city centre in a variety of ways.

“Dickson is a place with a strong identity, an engaged community and a lot of potential. The Dickson Grants represents a fantastic opportunity for the community to get involved in our continuing renewal efforts in this key area of the city precinct.”

Applicants for both the Dickson Grants and City Grants can apply for up to $10,000 each, GST exclusive. There is $100,000 available for each grant round, with the successful recipients required to undertake their proposed activity between 1 January and 30 June 2020.

“Many people in our community have original ideas that would help enliven our public spaces, but don’t know where to start or how to fund it. The Dickson Grants and City Grants can help turn what may have previously been a pipe dream into a reality,” Mr Snow said.

“I encourage the community to have a go and imagine how they can contribute to the ongoing revitalisation of our city precinct.”

This round of City Grants and Dickson Grants are funded through ACT government funding, with applications for both rounds closing on Wednesday 11 December 2019.
