Released 11/03/2020
About 1000 plants are available to be rehomed as the city centre’s flower displays are getting their latest seasonal refresh.
Canberrans can provide a new home to our outgoing plants at a giveaway tomorrow (Thursday, 12 March).
Plants available include Beyond Blues (plum), Mambos (blue), Cora Cascades (magenta), Streams (white, rose, lavender), Mystic Spires (Blue), Serenitas (purple), Frescos (pink and purple), Bellezas (white) and Pacific Sunrise and Sunsets.
The giveaway helps make way for the displays to be refreshed with new varieties of plants to reflect the changing season.
Unlike previous giveaways this event is taking place after the installation of the new seasonal plantings, so it is important to note that not all plants in the city are up for grabs.
People attending the giveaway at Garema Place should only take our “retired” plants from the identified plant-giveaway site.
City Renewal Authority chief executive Malcolm Snow said the plant giveaways were very popular with city centre workers, residents and visitors.
“It is always fantastic to see people so enthusiastic to extend the lives of these plants,” Mr Snow said.
“While the plants we are replacing have already done their bit to make the city centre’s public spaces more attractive and welcoming they still have life left in them, especially when they have a new location in people’s pots or gardens.
“Plants have gone quickly at previous giveaway events so I encourage you to be on time.”
The community is invited to attend plant giveaways in Garema Place at noon tomorrow (Thursday, 12 March).
- A limit of four plants per person will apply to allow the pots to be shared around.
- Plants are only allowed to be taken from the specified location at the specified time.
The flower displays are an initiative of the City Renewal Authority, made possible through the City Centre Marketing and Improvements Levy.
