The festive season kicks off in the city centre this week with summer decorations installed in the revitalised City Walk.
City Renewal Authority CEO, Malcolm Snow says that the kaleidoscopic Christmas tree has returned once again, and you can see it shine at the intersection of City Walk and Ainslie Place.
“Roving performances spreading messages of hope and holiday cheer, live music and entertainment, as well as family friendly activities and give-away events will also be on offer.
“A walk down the newly revitalised City Walk in Civic will also reveal stunning festive artworks that portray summer, inclusiveness, thankfulness and goodwill, adorning the streetlamp posts. The artworks were created by Australian artist Stephen Mok and UAP, an organisation that collaborates with creatives to bring common creativity to the public realm,” said Mr Snow.
The City Renewal Authority has also launched a new campaign this week to encourage Canberrans to support city businesses this Christmas by shopping, and meeting friends and family at restaurants and cafes in the city centre.
One important way Canberrans can help spread Christmas cheer and give back to their community is to support local businesses and reconnect with the city centre over the holiday period.
“Even in these challenging times, our city has so many great businesses ready to help you celebrate over the holiday season.
“The Celebrate a City Christmas campaign highlights five local businesses located in Civic. They will be featured in digital advertising, local media and outdoor spaces in the next few weeks, sharing their top tips for Christmas and what they love about the city and the people who visit it during this special time of year.
“When out and about, remember that all Canberrans have the responsibility to be COVID-safe, by practicing good hygiene, complying with social distancing requirements, and staying home if you’re unwell. More people wanting to get out over the holiday period also carries increased risk, so we all need to play our part to make sure we have a safe and happy Christmas,” said Mr Snow.
The Celebrate a City Christmas campaign is funded by the City Centre Marketing and Improvements Levy.
