Released 06/05/2020

Following a national recruitment search, Mr Dennis Eiszele has been appointed to the role of Director Design & Place Strategy with the City Renewal Authority.

A leading urban designer and landscape architect with international experience Mr Eiszele brings a wealth of knowledge to the City Renewal Authority to contribute to its vision to work with the community, business and government to create places in the city precinct that are of exemplary design quality, excite interest and participation and attract new investment.

City Renewal Authority CEO, Malcolm Snow said that Mr Eiszele is joining the agency in a time of uncertainty as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic and it will be his extensive private sector experience in urban design and renewal that will be invaluable to the Authority as it responds to the short and long-term challenges and the city revitalisation effort.

“Given the current circumstances, the Authority’s focus of reshaping the heart of our city not only physically but also economically, socially and environmentally, is especially important,” Mr Snow said.

Mr Eiszele joins the team with 25 years of experience in national and international design practices and infrastructure-based companies and has led a variety of city-shaping projects such as the renewal of the Townsville Waterfront and a new mass transit system as part of the ‘Let’s Get Wellington Moving’ programme.

“Dennis brings a deep understanding of cities, public realm design, urban renewal and infrastructure related development, backed by an impressive record of international best practice project work and research,” Mr Snow said.

“Great cities and their centres don’t succeed by accident. They require outstanding design, good governance and great collaboration. It is these skills that I know Dennis will bring to this key role and which will contribute to strengthening Canberra’s position as Australia’s most liveable city.”

Dennis will commence with the City Renewal Authority later this month.
