Grants available for projects to help make the city centre better

Released 06/03/2020

Do you have a great idea for a project that will make the city centre more welcoming, entertaining, exciting or accessible?

The City Renewal Authority is calling for applications for the latest round of City Grants to create more reasons for people to spend time in the city centre.

Grants applications for up to $50,000 will be considered, with a simpler process for applications up to $10,000.

City Renewal Authority chief executive Malcolm Snow said City Grants were a great way of making the city centre more interesting and enjoyable.

“Previous City Grants recipients have hosted some fantastic events and put on some great activities in our public spaces that have added to the look and feel of the city centre,” Mr Snow said.

“A key to creating great places is giving people more reasons to spend time in them and the City Grants program is just one of the ways that we are making the city centre a more attractive destination for residents, workers and visitors.

“We are looking for events, arts activities, installations or other projects that enrich the place experience, strengthen our community’s connection to the city centre, build capacity within our community, engage with local businesses and benefit the local economy.

“We are calling for applications for creative, innovative, diverse, and inclusive projects that strengthen the individual character and amenity of the places they are held in.

“I encourage anyone with an original idea for a project to visit our City Grants webpage, read through the guidelines and consider putting in an application.”

City Grants are available in two categories:

  • Tier 1 grants of up to $10,000 are available for activity over the first six months of the next financial year (1 July to 31 December 2020).
  • Tier 2 grants of between $10,001 and $50,000 are available for activity of the entire financial year (1 July 2010 to 30 June 2021).

Applications are now open and will close 7 April 2020 at 3pm.

The City Renewal Authority will hold a workshop in the coming weeks for potential applicants.
