ACT youth take back the city for Youth Week

Released 24/03/2021

Celebrate ACT Youth Week in the city with a program of events and activities including film screenings, live music, performances and more.

“ACT Youth Week is an important time for local young people to share ideas about issues that matter to them, attend events, show their talents and have their voices heard,” Jennifer Ramsay, Director of Place Experience and Marketing, City Renewal Authority said.

“This week, the City Renewal Authority is partnering with a range of community groups and organisations to celebrate Canberra’s young people and their contributions to our city.”

On Friday evening, Youth Week in the City will showcase live music, performances and games from 4pm to 7pm.

The winner of Belco’s Got Talent, Beau Sykes will be amongst other young performers, including 14-piece horn-led funk band ‘Chicken Salt’, Rainbow Energy Production (a.k.a. Damon Blank), The Prettirinas sisters, Lachlan Walker and more.

“Youth Week in the City allows young people to come together and have the freedom to express oneself within a celebration of Youth Week," said performing artist Beau Sykes.

The event is coordinated by Capital Region Community Services in partnership with Canberra’s young people, with support from the City Renewal Authority, A Gender Agenda, Multicultural Hub and Project Beats.

“On Saturday night, head to Dickson for a special Youth Week Flix ‘n Dickson event with a screening of the Karate Kid,” Ms Ramsay said.

“From 5pm, attendees can enjoy BMX workshops, bands and DJs before settling in for the movie. You can even run away to the circus with Warehouse Circus classes.

“We encourage people to bring their friends and snack on free popcorn and pizza. If this is not to your taste, you can also pack a picnic or grab some take away from a local vendor,” Ms Ramsay said.

To ensure that all Youth Week events in the city are COVID safe, it is important for all attendees to follow the latest health advice, maintain physical distancing and stay home if they are feeling unwell.

While Youth Week events in the city are family friendly and open to all people, they are specifically targeted at young people – those aged between 12-25.

Registrations for Flix ‘n Dickson are essential through Eventbrite. To find out more and to book your ticket, visit cityrenewalcbr.com.au
