Canberra’s City Centre to ignite with free family fun in July school holidays

Released 28/05/2025

Looking for exciting short trips to keep the kids entertained these school holidays? Canberra’s Winter in the City is back, bigger, brighter and more exciting than ever.

The City Renewal Authority is inviting families to plan a trip to Canberra to enjoy the free entertainment program packed with world-class performances. Every day from 5-19 July 2025, Canberra’s City Centre will transform into a winter theatre with family-friendly shows and spectacular nightly fire performances within walking distance of accommodation.

“We’ve expanded our free entertainment program to bring people into the city to shop, eat, and enjoy the magic of winter,” said Jennifer Ramsay, Executive Group Manager, Enabling Operations, City Renewal Authority.

“For 15 days, visitors to the city can enjoy a diverse and dynamic range of free entertainment. Paired with the city’s dining options, warm drinks, and cosy accommodation, it’s the ideal family getaway.”

In week one, daytime shows feature the space-themed Mission to the Moon and the comedic acrobatics of Circus Firemen. Week two brings the musical fun of Lucky Jim and the high-energy spectacle of Circus Oz.

At night, the city lights up with fire shows by Flux Entertainment, whose choreographed pyrotechnics have wowed audiences nationwide since their breakout on Australia’s Got Talent.

The Winter in the City program will wrap up in a flavourful finale in a special edition of The Forage on Saturday 19 July 2025. From 12pm to 8pm, the beloved street food event will feature live music, family entertainment and fire performances.

“Whether you’re coming in for a day trip or planning a weekend adventure, the City Centre will be buzzing with free entertainment, delicious food, and a warm winter atmosphere that’s perfect for families, friends, and anyone looking to enjoy something special these school holidays,” Ms Ramsay said.
