The second week of Winter in the City will bring a spectacular mix of circus, fire and flavour to Canberra’s City Centre this week, headlined by the internationally acclaimed Circus Oz and Canberra’s beloved street food event, The Forage.
In a rare treat for locals and visitors alike, Circus Oz’s usually ticketed performances will be free to attend thanks to the City Renewal Authority’s program to encourage city visitation and spending.
Daily performances will begin with a show from local musical comedy act Lucky Jim, leading into the main event with Circus Oz’s ‘Non-stop’ and followed by three thrilling fire shows from Flux Entertainment. Expect gravity-defying acrobatics, laugh-out-loud antics and jaw-dropping moments in shows that will captivate audiences of all ages.
The week of entertainment will come together in a feast for the senses with The Forage on Saturday 19 July, featuring 35 food and beverage vendors offering gourmet street eats, craft drinks and sweet treats.
The Forage will also include two performances from Circus Oz, alongside thrilling fire performances from Jessie Spin and Flux Entertainment, creating a spectacular fusion of flavour and performance.
“Non-Stop is a fun-filled extravaganza. It’s a collision of comedy, clowning, acrobatics, flying trapeze, and crazy antics by the hand of an eclectic ensemble spanning six decades,” said Nicci Wilks, Circus Oz Non-Stop Director.
“We’re excited to bring our acclaimed production to Canberra as part of our national tour, before we head to New York. We can’t wait to share the joy of circus with audiences, especially in such a dynamic setting like Winter in the City.”
Winter in the City is part of the City Renewal Authority’s annual Place Experience and Marketing program, designed to enhance the appeal of Canberra’s City Centre and support local businesses.
“We’re excited to have Circus Oz join us for Winter in the City and deliver an unforgettable experience that Canberrans can enjoy for free” said Teresa Comacchio, Acting Executive Branch Manager Place Experience and Communications, City Renewal Authority.
“Winter in the City is all about wonder and community and this year’s program is our most exciting yet. We’re seeing an average of 1500 attendees per day, and many of them have also gone into nearby shops, restaurants and bars, giving businesses a welcome boost.”
