Expressions of interest are now open for the City Hill park People’s Panel, offering Canberrans a direct role in shaping one of Canberra’s most significant civic spaces.
City Hill park, an apex in the Griffin Plan for Canberra, is set for renewal through a new long-term masterplan to ensure it becomes a more welcoming, accessible and well-used green space.
The concept masterplan will build on the 2024 City Hill Ideas Exhibition which attracted more than 650 survey responses and 69 design proposals submitted by the community. It is a critical element of the broader evolution of the City Centre, which includes new cultural destinations, transport upgrades and growing residential precincts.
“City Hill is a landmark of national significance at the heart of Canberra, yet it remains underused,” said City Renewal CEO Craig Gillman.
“This is our chance to rethink what it can be and make it a destination for everyone. It’s time for City Hill to evolve.”
Around 30 residents from across the ACT and surrounding region will be selected to join the City Hill People’s Panel, representing a broad cross‑section of the community.
Members will meet across several sessions from May to November 2026 to explore opportunities and priorities for the park’s future. They will draw on insights from heritage experts, designers, First Nations representatives, transport planners and other experts.
“This panel will guide the masterplan and shape the future of City Hill park. This is the moment to re-imagine City Hill,” Mr Gillman said.
