Works will continue next week to connect Constitution Avenue to Vernon Circle in the city, bringing the $44.8 million Constitution Avenue upgrade project another step closer to completion.
“The extension of Constitution Avenue to Vernon Circle will improve access into the city, give motorists more access to parking opportunities and complete the east-west link for the road,” Acting Director Capital Works Design and Delivery, Ben McHugh said.
“The intersection of Constitution Avenue and Vernon Circle will be signalised to control traffic flows and pedestrian access to City Hill. These signals will be synchronised with the Northbourne Avenue and London Circuit intersection to manage the impact on the broader network.”
Temporary lane closures are required to allow works to be undertaken on Vernon Circle to enable the intersection signalisation to be completed.
Traffic access on Vernon Circle will be reduced to one south-bound lane, outside of the peak traffic period, between 9.30 am and 3.30 pm, Tuesday 16 August and Wednesday 17 August 2016, weather permitting. Delays are expected. Motorists and other road users are encouraged to seek an alternate route.
Barriers, warning and diversion signs will be erected on site.
