Transport Canberra will make it easier for Canberrans to get home from Christmas celebrations with late night bus services in December. Partnering with Uber, the Late Night Rapid buses will commence on Friday 7 December, and will run on selected Friday and Saturday nights until New Year’s Eve.
“The ACT Government is committed to ensuring Canberra is better connected by making major improvements to the public transport network. In the recent consultation, the community told us they wanted buses more often and later into the evening. With this feedback in mind, and due to the success of Late Night Rapids in previous years, we are excited to partner with Uber once again to offer an affordable late-night service to the community that connects people from Civic to home”, said Judith Sturman, Executive Director Public Transport Operations at Transport Canberra.
The Late Night Rapid bus service is a modified version the Red and Blue Rapids and will run from 2pm to 3am. It includes:
- a Late Night Red Rapid service, between Gungahlin and Kingston, return via Civic and Dickson;
- a Late Night Blue Rapid service, between Belconnen and Tuggeranong, return via Civic and Woden;
- buses departing the City every 20 minutes on Fridays and Saturdays, travelling to major town centres or bus stations along the route, and more frequent services during New Year’s Eve.
Uber is partnering with Transport Canberra to offer discounted Uber trips when travelling via the Late Night Rapids service, making it an even more convenient and affordable option. Passengers simply have to use the Uber app to book a ride to and from their nearest bus interchange (except Civic) and they will automatically get $10 off their trip.
“Uber is proud to be partnering with Transport Canberra to give residents an affordable and safe way to enjoy the festive season. For December weekends, people will get $10 off all Uber rides to and from late night rapid bus terminals, for a seamless journey door to door. Instead of grabbing their car keys, we hope residents will push a button and get a ride to enjoy their night out in Canberra," said Natalie Malligan, Uber Head of Cities for ANZ.
Late Night Rapids will run every 20 minutes on the following dates:
- Friday 7 December 2018
- Saturday 8 December 2018
- Friday 14 December 2018
- Saturday 15 December 2018
- Friday 21 December 2018
- Saturday 22 December 2018
- 31 December 2018, New Year’s Eve (every 15 minutes)
