Closures on William Hovell Drive from Monday, 15 April 2019

Released 12/04/2019

Infrastructure upgrades are underway on William Hovell Drive and Coppins Crossing Road to ensure that both road and water infrastructure are in place to accommodate the expected growth in the area.

Location and timing of road closures

William Hovell Drive will be closed westbound between Coulter Drive and Coppins Crossing Road from 9.30 am to 3.30 pm on Monday 15 April 2019 and Tuesday 16 April 2019 for asphalting works (weather permitting). William Hovel Drive westbound will be detoured onto Coulter Drive. In case of unexpected delays, including inclement weather, roadside signage will alert drivers to any additional days required.

There will be no right turn from Coulter Drive onto William Hovell Drive. William Hovell Drive eastbound will be unaffected and there will still be access eastbound from William Hovell Drive onto Coppins Crossing Road and Coulter Drive.

These asphalting works bring this first stage of works closer to opening all four lanes for the first 900 metres of John Gorton Drive (Coppins Crossing Road) south from the William Hovell Drive intersection.

The community will also have noticed early works beginning on the next stage of works further south on Coppins Crossing Road.

The second stage of works includes:

  • upgrading 500 metres of Coppins Crossing Road (to be known as John Gorton Drive) to a dual carriageway south of the recently duplicated section
  • providing an additional signalised intersection on John Gorton Drive into Whitlam
  • constructing one unsignalised left-in / left-out intersection from John Gorton Drive into Whitlam.

The project team has begun erecting the site compound and roadwork signage and will begin earthworks in the coming weeks. The initial construction of the new carriageway will take place on the eastern side of the existing carriageway with minimal impact to road users.
