Libraries Refreshed – Coming soon, a new and improved way to use your local library

Libraries ACT is improving its services with a new library computer system. The system will be updated in several stages, with the first phase including new self-service kiosks which will start popping up at local branches this week.

“Our existing systems are being refreshed and updated and from this week we will begin to implement our new Integrated Library Management System,” Executive Branch Manager of Libraries ACT Vanessa Little said.

“The first phase of the new system will be installing self-service kiosks and return chutes. It is an exciting time for all library users. Things might look a little different, but they will be easier to use, and our customers will be able to do more.

“In the final phase, library members will also have access to our new and improved catalogue. The catalogue will allow them to search for all resources in the one place including ebooks and other digital material, create alerts so members know when material of interest is available and more.”

On screen instructions will guide users through the new kiosks. If members experience any issues, the library team at the branch will be available to help out. Kiosks will be used to borrow, renew and return material.

“While self-service kiosks and new return chutes are being installed, there will be times when some services are limited or unavailable,” Ms Little said.

“We ask everyone to please be patient and also remind them to ensure their membership details are up-to-date to get the most out of the new library system.”

The new self-service kiosks and return chutes will arrive at libraries branch by branch on the following days:
