New signalised intersection in Molonglo gets a green (red and orange) light

Released 18/02/2019

Motorists and other road users are advised that the new traffic lights at the intersection of William Hovell Drive and John Gorton Drive (Coppins Crossing Road) will be operational from Tuesday 19 February 2019.

Tomorrow, Tuesday 19 February 2019, the traffic lights at the intersection of William Hovell Drive and John Gorton Drive will be switched on. This follows one lane of northbound traffic on John Gorton Drive being moved onto the new northbound carriageway on Tuesday 12 February 2019.

Road users are reminded to drive carefully and be aware of the changed traffic arrangements. The next milestone for this project will be the permanent opening of all four lanes on John Gorton Drive.

The first stage of infrastructure upgrades in the Molonglo Valley region got underway in mid 2017. The works include the reconstruction of the northern end of Coppins Crossing Road (to be renamed John Gorton Drive) as a dual carriageway and the installation of traffic lights at its existing intersection with William Hovell Drive.
