Bin collection changes on Christmas Day

The ACT Government wishes to advise residents of changes to bin collection services on Christmas Day.

Kerbside waste, recycling and green waste collections scheduled for Christmas Day, Friday 25 December 2020, will take place a day later on Saturday 26 December 2020. Please leave your bin/s on the kerb for collection.

Impacted suburbs are:

Acton, Ainslie, Barton, Braddon, Campbell, City, Deakin, Dickson, Downer, Forrest, Franklin, Fyshwick, Hughes, Griffith, Gungahlin, Hackett, Harrison, Kingston, Lyneham (south), Narrabundah, Oaks Estate, O’Connor, Pialligo, Red Hill, Reid, Throsby, Turner, and Watson.

All other collection days, including Boxing Day, New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day will be collected as per normal.

The Mugga and Mitchell Resource Management Centres will be closed on Christmas Day, Friday 25 December 2020. The Recycling Drop Off Centres are open 24 hours a day, seven days a week, including Christmas Day. These facilities accept steel and aluminium cans, paper, cardboard and rigid plastic containers.

The ACT Container Deposit Scheme depots will be closed on Christmas Day but are otherwise open from 9am to 4pm Monday to Saturday and 9am to 3pm on Sundays and public holidays. If you would like to return eligible drink containers, you can find your nearest return point at www.actcds.com.au/return-points/

Residents are reminded to correctly dispose of hazardous waste like batteries and gas bottles, which can cause fires if placed in the household bins.

Residents can visit act.gov.au/recyclopaedia to find locations to safely dispose of batteries, gas bottles and a range of other common items.
